Comprehension is a Skill That Can Be Taught

Children can often read a passage perfectly well but still struggle with the questions because they are not sure what the question is actually asking them to do.

Our comprehension packs break this down and teach children how to recognise and tackle the main skills tested:

Retrieve: Find information that is clearly stated in the passage
Infer: Use clues in the text to work out information that has not been said directly.
Word Choice: Understand the meaning and effect of particular words and phrases.
SPaG: Apply knowledge of spelling, punctuation and grammar.
Summarise: Identify the most important information and main ideas.
Visualise: Use descriptions and details to build a clear picture of what is happening.
